- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
- 2/3 cup cold heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
- 1/2 cup mix-ins chocolate chips, dried fruit, cheese, or herbs - optional
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut the cold butter into small cubes and work it into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract (if using).
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
If using mix-ins, gently fold them into the dough.
Step 2: Shape the Scones
Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough onto it.
Shape the dough into a round disc, about 3/4-inch thick.
Cut into 8 equal wedges.
Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and place scones in a single layer, leaving space between each.
Step 3: Air Fry the Scones
Preheat the air fryer to 330°F (165°C) for 3 minutes.
Air fry the scones at 330°F for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
Allow scones to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Enjoy warm with clotted cream, butter, or your favorite jam.
-
For best results, use cold butter and cold cream to maintain a flaky texture.
-
If your air fryer runs hot, reduce the temperature to 320°F and check for doneness early.
-
Try different mix-ins for unique flavors: blueberries, cheese & chives, or cinnamon sugar.
-
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
