Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk warm
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup smooth jelly strawberry, raspberry, or your choice
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted, for brushing
  • Powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle active dry yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  • Make the Dough: Add flour, salt, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract into the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-8 minutes until smooth.
  • Proof the Dough: Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • Shape the Donuts: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to shape the donuts.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the Donuts: Place the donuts into the air fryer basket in a single layer (don’t overcrowd). Air fry at 350°F for 4-5 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  • Fill the Donuts: Allow the donuts to cool for a few minutes. Then, using a piping bag, fill the donuts with your choice of jelly by inserting the piping tip into the side of each donut and gently squeezing.
  • Coat and Serve: Brush the donuts with melted butter, then dust with powdered sugar. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Yeast Tip: Ensure your yeast is fresh and the milk is warm, not hot (100°F-110°F), to properly activate the yeast.
  • Filling Options: You can customize your jelly filling with your favorite flavors like raspberry, strawberry, or even chocolate cream.
  • Air Fryer Tip: Preheat the air fryer to get the best crispiness. Avoid overcrowding the basket to ensure even cooking.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 3 days. For optimal freshness, enjoy within 1-2 days.
