Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon for coating
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • In a small saucepan, combine water, butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and quickly stir in the flour until the mixture forms a smooth ball of dough. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes.

Incorporate Eggs:

  • Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Preheat Air Fryer:

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.

Pipe the Churros:

  • Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped tip. Pipe 4-6-inch strips of dough directly onto a parchment-lined tray or cutting board.

Cook the Churros:

  • Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray. Carefully transfer the piped dough strips into the air fryer, leaving space between each churro. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:

  • While the churros are still warm, toss them in a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon until evenly coated.

Serve:

  • Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauces like melted chocolate or caramel.

Notes

  • Dough Consistency: Ensure the dough is smooth and pliable; this helps the churros hold their shape.
  • Batch Cooking: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
  • Storage: Store leftover churros in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to restore crispiness.
  • Customization: Add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mix or serve with flavored dips for a unique twist.
